A look at some of the exciting and innovative developments from Martin Lighting.

Martin lighting has long been a standard within the event and entertainment industry. With the likes of the MAC encore, possibly their most renowned fixture, with its quiet, bright, and versatile light, gracing many stages around the globe. You might think that this work horse light could be a one trick pony of success, but their passion for lighting hasn’t plateaued.

Their commitment to honest data-driven design, along with a healthy dose of imagination, has created some new and unique fixtures that stand up, and stand out in side-by-side comparison. So, let’s take a look at some of the fixtures within their range and dive into what sets them apart.

The ELP CL IP and ELP WW IP

A Profile fixture with a flat and easy to focus field.

Available in Full Colour (CL) or warm white (WW) the ellipsoidal profile has been designed to produce a highly efficient, flicker free, flat field, with all the features you’d expect from a front of house profile. But the functionality and output aren’t the only things that have been balanced to meet a mid-tier budget. The yoke attachment has been shifted forward along the engine making for a more user-friendly set-up. This paired with a gear-based lens adjustment means you are able to achieve the most precise focus with no drifting or slipping.

The ERA 700 Performance IP

A moving head for permanent outdoor installation.

26,000lm, 680W LED Profile with full curtain framing, CMYC colour mixing 7 indexing rotation and shake gobos are just some of the features you can expect from this 759mm in height and below 40kg fixture. The marine-grade salinity protects against the harshest environmental conditions while working flawlessly in temperatures of -20° to +40°. However, what is most impressive about this product is with its tamper proof box installed it exceeds an IP rating of 65! Making this fixture a rarity for permanent outdoor moving head installations, ideal for leisure or theme parks.

The MAC Aura XIP

Wash light with eye candy flair for temporary indoor or outdoor installation applications.

The award-winning Mac Aura XIP is where we were first introduced to Martin’s exclusive XIP technology, developed as the perfect equilibrium between functionality, physical size and output for a cost-effective fixture that won’t disappoint on stage, no matter where that stage is.  As mentioned earlier, Martin’s design features aren’t just limited to functional, robust, and usable fixtures. Their development of lighting that creates unique and exciting looks are well showcased in fixtures such as the MAC Aura XIP and the newly released MAC One.  Both these fixtures expand upon a more traditional wash light adding eye candy features to create unique and beautiful looks.

The Mac Aura XIP and MAC One are both part of our hires stock. If you’d like to see more of either of these multi-functional eye candy fixtures you can do so at hireWL.

The MAC Viper XIP

A powerful feature-rich moving head for temporary outdoor installation.

The newest addition to the XIP family builds on the success of the award winning  MAC Viper Profile with the new release exceeding many of the latter models specifications. Higher light output and lower noise are just two that you might not be surprised by, with the IP rating you might expect to also see a bulkier fixture, which is not the case with the Viper XIP having a reduction in weight also.

Down time on fixtures is one of the most frustrating experiences wherever your lights are installed, but can be particularly fraught with complexity when your lights are outside. You may be familiar with the fault-finding process of vacuum check errors, and left wondering if you tightened the screws down in the right order.  The MAC Viper XIP does away with this with no vacuum check, or specific cover screw replacement order required.

Their proprietary light engine instead of using silica uses ceramic making it more capable of dealing with heat which can degrade the fixtures output over time. Although this shouldn’t be a problem with some clever design choices by Martin. With the LED’s being run below their maximum output with light recycling technology for longevity, lower power draw and more consistent light over the fixtures life cycle, you are still able to achieve 28,000 lumens from the fixture. The MAC Viper XIP has also been designed to let both water and air flow through the fixture at key points for a cool running light.
