Plasa 2021 Returns with Great News
September 9th, 2021 - 08:04
This week saw the return of the Plasa Show, which brought about a long-awaited reconnection of the live sector, in the real world. While it has been sobering to hear of the challenges and relentless struggle that so many have faced this past year, the Olympia Grand was buzzing. The sense of optimism and renewed hope for the future of our resilient industry was palpable and it has been wonderful catching-up with so many of our customers and peers.
The packed itinerary included all the show’s usual content, including the innovative new products award, seminars, meet and greet zones, product demos and training sessions. Our own Andy Hook and Sarah Cox, from the Innovations team, presented daily sessions about XR and the technologies defining the future of hybrid events.
“We received lots of great feedback about these sessions, with attendees saying that they really benefited from learning more about this subject, directly from the experts. Lots of exciting conversations took place, with people keen to explore how they can get involved with utilising this tech and venture into this new branch of the industry.”

We Make Events Campaign at Plasa
There was much talk of the #WeMakeEvents movement during the show, which has been a prominent and tireless force throughout the pandemic, raising awareness of the creative industries’ plight. It has also highlighted to many the extensive supply chain behind delivering some of the world’s favourite shows and events.
Global issues were discussed in numerous roundtable talks with the organisers in 2020, highlighting their future plans. This great work was crucial to the extension of furlough and securing critically needed support for freelancers. #WeMakeEvents now encompasses a larger group of charities, ensuring that support is made available to everyone who needs it and thankfully this looks set to continue for some time
Another amazing support resource for the sector is Backup – the technical entertainment charity, of which our Chairman John Simpson is proud to be Chair of the Trustees. John stressed the vital importance of their Hardship Fund, which provided financial relief to thousands of families during the pandemic. Ahead of the Plasa opening, a valiant team participated in BikeFest – an 80 mile ride from Reading to Olympia, with all funds raised going to Backup.
Great thanks were given to all that had contributed to the fundraising efforts to date, as well as to all the companies who provided support and equipment to some of the stunning awareness campaigns. If you would like to donate, please visit the donation page HERE.
